In 2011 a tender was opened for a new fishing port in Durres, Albania. The port of Durres contains cruise, ferry, freight and fishing sections and is the biggest port of Albania.

The Republic of Albania has received a loan from the Islamic Development Bank toward the cost of construction of the new Durres Fishing Port Project.
The port will have a capacity of about 130 for anchoring fishing vessels, surface and ground water and a basin of 10 acres. Port construction, according to a contemporary project, respecting all environmental conditions, will radically improve working conditions for fishermen, and will create new employment opportunities for about 700 people, the hunting of fish and 1,000 employees in the infrastructure to support marketing and processing of fish.
